Systems that connect people have long been themes of my work. Such themes are evidenced by paintings, drawings, sculpture, and installations that explore language and communication as well as the universal presence of shape, line and symbol.
My work combines abstraction and symbolism through highly colorful oil-on-wood, collage and other mixed media pieces that embody elements of nature, science and spirit. Thus, I visualize natural, metaphysical and cultural forces through an intuitive iconography of gesture and image.
I desire to create work that impacts people in energizing and generative ways. I have attempted to breathe life into imagery by incorporating a sensual surface, a theater of mark-making, and glowing, colorful organic forms. This approach has led me to new work where the natural pattern of wood grain panels is incorporated into compositions that include a vocabulary of arcs, circles, and painted rhythmic forms.
