Cheryl H. Hahn moved to the state of Washington in 1995 and opened her studio in 1996. Prior to her arrival she served as Director and Curator of the Lockport Gallery---a branch facility of the Illinois State Museum. During her tenure (1987 – 1995) with the Illinois State Museum, Hahn curated exhibitions, produced numerous catalogues and directed all gallery operations. In addition, she served on the Illinois Arts Council Development Panel, and the Fine Arts Review Committee of the Illinois Capitol Development Board. Hahn currently serves as Director of the Larson Gallery, in Yakima, Washington where she has curated numerous exhibitions including City Views featuring the work of Amanda Coleman, Julia Ricketts and Anita Lehman, and Layered Histories featuring the work of Gail Grinnell and Lynda K. Rockwood.
Since moving to the Northwest, Cheryl has exhibited her work in numerous local venues including Patrician Cameron Gallery, Atelier 31 Gallery, Seattle Pacific University, the Helen S. Smith Gallery of Green River Community College, Gallery 110, the Bellevue Art Museum, Everett Center for the Arts, Shoreline Community College, and the Port Angeles Fine Art Center. Hahn‘s work has also been featured at the Northwest Bookfest at the Seattle Convention Center with two installations. Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections.
During recent years, Hahn has been a contributing writer to the Seattle based publication: Art Access, and has written reviews for Art Papers. Hahn also curated a major exhibition in 2001 titled ”Natural Causes.“ This exhibition featured installations and mixed media work by ten Seattle area artists and was augmented by a documentary video produced by Hahn. Cheryl has also directed several workshops and hosted lectures for numerous groups, universities, and galleries including the Francine Seders Gallery, Gallery One, Snohomish Fine Art Center, Edmonds Fine Art Museum, and the University of Washington.
The artist holds a BS degree from Indiana State University, an MFA degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and completed post-graduate work in Museum Studies at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., under the direction of the late Stephen Weil, former Deputy Director of the Hirshhorn Museum.
